My class went on a field trip to Yorkville in Toronto this afternoon to check out the window and in-store displays of the luxury & high end retailers this season. We started at Anthropologie, made our way to Free People, Teatro Verde, Harry Rosen, Kate Spade, Pottery Barn, Burberry, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Williams Sonoma. It was a lovely day. My first post I’m dedicating to Louis Vuitton’s immaculate window displays. As a fine arts grad, and a current visual merchandising student, these windows epitomize what I love about window display and how far it can be taken. Sofia Coppola teamed up with LV this season and co-designed some of these windows which were up in La Bon Marche, Paris.
The carnival-esque red and white striped hot air balloon windows I saw this summer when I was in NYC. Painters, sculptors, ceramists and designers are responsible for creating these works of retail art. LV always has beautiful & thoughtful window displays. They set a good example for other retailers, (although LV’s budget for window design must be astronomically high since they’re a luxury name brand). Even still, I feel like this could be the direction window display is heading.
